Solar Physics with Radio Observations

SUMMARY

This symposium is an international meeting on solar physics with an emphasis on radio observations, particularly those from the Nobeyama Radioheliograph. The Nobeyama Radioheliograph is a unique instrument to study a variety of solar phenomena. This uniqueness is due to several factors: it is a dedicated solar instrument, with full coverage of the solar disk, high angular and temporal resolution, and continuous observations for 8 hours daily. The observation obtained thus far span the latter half of the declining phase of the solar activity cycle 22, and the beginning phase of the cycle 23. We are expecting the activity maximum in a couple of years. On this occasion, we would like to summarize recent radio observations of the Sun and to discuss future coordinated solar observations with radio instrumentation.

VENUE

Kiyosato: Kiyosato is located about 5 km from Nobeyama Radio Observatory. The meeting will be held at Seisenryo Hotel (about 2 km from Kiyosato JR station). Meeting attendees are encoraged to stay at this hotel. JR Railway connections between Narita airport and Kiyosato through Shinjuku and Kobuchizawa are listed below. More detailed information and other ways are available in the Web page. We EXPECT the weather around the end of October will be fine and temperature will be around 5 - 15 degrees Celsius.
JR Tickets: The train ticket system of JR is different from the European system. It consists of normal ticket and extra ticket for (non)reserved limited express ticket. You can buy JR normal ticket from Narita to Nobeyama. It will cost roughly 5000 Yen. Limited express ticket for Narita Express (Narita - Shinjuku) will cost 1,620 Yen and for (Super) Azusa (Shinjuku - Kobuchizawa) will cost 2,610 (-510 for non reserved) Yen. You can buy all these tickets at the JR office in the Narita airport. You can also buy extra tickets at Shinjuku station or in the train. All your tickets will be collected when you get out from the destination (Kiyosato).
JR Line Time Table (Narita-Shinjuku-Kobuchizawa-Kiyosato) -> Seisenryo Hotel: Narita - Shinjuku (JR Narita line + Sobu line); Shinjuku - Kobuchizawa (JR Chuo line); Kobuchizawa - Kiyosato (JR Koumi line); At Kiyosato station, someone from LOC will meet you and the transportation to the hotel will be organized. In case you cannot find anyone, please use a taxi or call the Hotel (0551) 48 - 2111.

PROCEEDINGS

We will publish the proceedings of the symposium as one of the NRO report series. To make the publication quick and smooth, we ask all of you to bring the manuscripts (/draft) with you and hand them at the registration desk. Latex style files (double spacing for drafts) and sample files are prepared. Double spacing plain texts are also accepted as a draft. Please bring 3 hard copies of the drafts. Page limits (single spacing, including figures):
- long (40 min.) invited paper: 12 pages
- intermediate (30 min.) invited paper: 10 pages
- short (20 min.) invited and contributed paper: 6 pages
- poster paper: 4 pages
By supressing the "/draft" command in sample files, you will get a single spacing document. You can estimate the number of pages of your paper in final form. Refereeing processes will start during the meeting. After the refereeing, we will ask you to send us the revised .TEX files and figures (in EPS) by e-mail or FTP. Deadline of the submission of the papers in final forms will be the end of the year or early next year. Latex style files and sample files are located in the following URL address.
